One of the things I enjoy most about photography is getting a look behind the curtain of different industries. One day I might be photographing an athlete training on the beach, the next I’m working with a corporate team helping them elevate their brand presence. Recently, my assistant Tommy and I had the opportunity to photograph a professional headshot session for the team at George Reres Law, P.A., a respected criminal defense law firm based in Fort Lauderdale.
It turned into one of those sessions that reminds you why preparation, teamwork, and a solid workflow make all the difference.
This shoot involved photographing 14 members of the firm, including four attorneys and the rest of the office staff, creating consistent professional headshots for their website and marketing materials. By the end of the day, we not only delivered strong images for their brand—but also built the kind of relationship that leads to future projects.
Let’s walk through how the session unfolded.
Packing the Gear and Heading to the Office
The morning started early. Anyone who works in photography knows the drill: gear bags, light stands, modifiers, cables, backdrops… it adds up quickly.
Tommy and I packed the car full of equipment and headed to the law firm’s office. Corporate headshot sessions often come with one big challenge—space. Unlike a studio where you can spread out freely, office environments require flexibility and efficiency.
When we arrived, we evaluated the available space and selected an area that allowed us to create a clean, professional setup without disrupting the normal workflow of the office.
Building a Professional Lighting Setup on Location
With limited space available, we built a compact but effective lighting setup designed specifically for corporate headshots.
Our setup included:
Grey seamless paper backdrop mounted on a C-stand
Elinchrom key light with a large octabox softbox
Elinchrom hair light with a grid for separation
Reflector fill light clamped to a small stand
The grey seamless backdrop works especially well for professional headshots because it creates a clean, neutral background that keeps the focus on the subject. It also pairs nicely with most wardrobe choices.
The octabox soft light served as the key light, producing soft, flattering illumination across the face. Soft light is crucial for professional headshots—it reduces harsh shadows while still providing enough contrast to shape the face.
The hair light, equipped with a grid, helped separate the subject from the background. This subtle rim light adds dimension and prevents the subject from blending into the backdrop.
Finally, we used a reflector to add just a touch of fill light, softening shadows under the chin and balancing the overall lighting.
Even in a tight office space, this setup allowed us to create images that looked polished and professional—exactly what corporate clients need.
The Camera Setup and Tethered Workflow
For this session I used my Canon R5 paired with my 85mm prime lens, mounted on a tripod for consistency.
The 85mm focal length is a classic choice for portraits. It provides flattering compression while maintaining natural proportions—perfect for professional headshots.
One of the key parts of our workflow was tethering the camera to an iPad using Capture One. This allowed us to view images in real time as they were captured.
Tethering provides several advantages during corporate sessions:
Clients can see the images immediately
Lighting and exposure adjustments can be made quickly
Subjects feel more confident when they see great results instantly
The photographer can ensure consistency across multiple people
It also speeds up decision-making and keeps the entire process efficient—something busy professionals always appreciate.
Keeping the Session Efficient
Photographing 14 people in an office environment requires a solid plan.
Time is valuable for businesses, and the goal is to create great images without pulling employees away from their work for long periods.
To keep everything running smoothly, we scheduled five-minute shooting slots for each subject and staggered them throughout the session.
This approach worked incredibly well. Instead of having people waiting around, employees arrived at their scheduled time, stepped into the setup, and we captured several strong images within minutes.
The process looked something like this:
Subject arrives
Quick posture and expression guidance
Capture multiple variations
Review images together
Select favorites for editing
Within just a few minutes, each person had professional images ready for final retouching.
Photographing the Attorneys
The attorneys at the firm were a big part of the session.
A law firm’s website is often the first impression potential clients have, and professional headshots help communicate credibility, trust, and confidence.
The founder of the firm, George Edward Reres, has been practicing criminal law for decades and has served as lead counsel in hundreds of felony jury trials, including numerous high-profile cases.
With a career spanning more than 40 years in the Broward County legal system, he has built a reputation as an experienced trial attorney known for handling complex criminal defense cases.
Professional headshots for attorneys are particularly important because clients are often searching for someone they feel confident trusting with serious legal matters.
A strong portrait can communicate:
Confidence
Approachability
Professionalism
Authority
Those qualities matter a lot when someone is choosing legal representation.
The Group Photo
In addition to individual headshots, we also photographed a group shot of the attorneys.
Group portraits are important for law firms because they show the team behind the practice. It reinforces the idea that clients aren’t just hiring one attorney—they’re gaining the support of an entire legal team.
Lighting group portraits requires careful balancing to ensure every subject is evenly lit and positioned naturally. With the same lighting setup adjusted slightly, we captured a strong group image that will work well across the firm’s website and marketing materials.
Letting the Clients Choose Their Favorites
One of the things clients appreciate most about our process is the ability to review their images immediately.
After each person was photographed, we allowed them to review their images and select their favorite shots for editing.
This step has several benefits:
Clients feel involved in the process
They choose the images they feel most confident about
It reduces guesswork for the photographer
It speeds up the final delivery process
It’s a simple step that dramatically improves the overall client experience.
Why Professional Headshots Matter for Businesses
In today’s digital world, nearly every client interaction begins online.
Before someone picks up the phone, sends an email, or schedules a consultation, they often visit a company’s website to learn more about the people behind the business.
Professional headshots help establish:
Trust
People want to see who they’re working with.
Consistency
Matching headshots across a website create a polished brand identity.
Professional credibility
High-quality images signal that a company takes its work seriously.
Approachability
The right portrait makes professionals look confident but also welcoming.
For industries like law, real estate, finance, and consulting, these images play a major role in shaping a potential client’s first impression.
A Session That Turned Into More Opportunities
One of the best parts about this shoot was the reaction from the team.
They loved the images.
When a client is excited about the results, it almost always leads to future work—and that’s exactly what happened here.
The firm has already invited us back to photograph lifestyle images of their office environment, capturing their team interacting and working together.
These types of photos are incredibly valuable for marketing because they show real people in authentic moments, helping potential clients connect with the brand.
But the opportunities didn’t stop there.
George also mentioned future projects that include photographing:
The firm’s branded vehicles once they are wrapped with advertising graphics
New storefront window displays
Additional marketing imagery for the firm
And in one of those unexpected turns that photography sometimes brings…
George even joked that he might have to hire me to photograph his wedding later this year.
You never quite know where a good photo session might lead.
Final Thoughts
Corporate photography sessions like this are a great reminder that strong images aren’t just about lighting and gear—they’re about helping businesses present themselves at their best.
From packing the car with gear to building a lighting setup in a tight office space, to working efficiently with a full team of professionals, this shoot was a great example of how preparation and teamwork lead to great results.
A huge thanks to George Reres Law, P.A. and their team for welcoming us into their office and trusting Image Art Creation LLC to create the images that represent their firm.
We’re looking forward to returning soon for the next round of photos.
